Internationalisation Home items Europe Conjuncture United States of America Global economic trendsData for the third quarter of 2021 confirm a particularly positive dynamics for European sales of home products to the US market (see our preliminary estimates based on the most recent statements from US Census Bureau).
In the first 9 months of the year, EU27 sales of the industry largely registered a new high, up by more than 33% compared to the corresponding period of 2020 and almost 13 percentage points higher compared to the same (pre-pandemic) period of 2019. As you can see from the chart below, EU sales reached a new quarterly peak of €2.2 billion in Q3-2021.
European sales to the US market are currently at their peak levels for furniture, home appliances, home textiles, pots and pans, cutlery, glasses and tableware
Data reveal a particularly dynamic sales performance of EU27 companies in the Furniture segment: in the first 9 months of the current year, values emerge as even 35% higher compared to the corresponding period of 2019.
Within the segment, several products show EU sales at their peak levels: Wood furniture for bedrooms (+43% compared to pre-Covid levels), Wood furniture for dining rooms and living rooms (+40% compared to the same period in 2019), Sofas and armchairs (+34% compared to the same period in 2019).

A new all-time high also concerned European sales of Pots and pans, which rose to record levels - almost 40% higher compared to the corresponding period of 2019. For the Home Appliances segment, the first 3 quarters of 2021 showed new highs for European sales in the US market, as well: these were nearly 19 percentage points higher compared to the corresponding period of 2019. Also noteworthy is the all-time high for EU27 sales of Cutlery, which in the first 9 months of 2021 achieved a 33% increase on the US market compared to the corresponding period of 2019.
In spite of a less accelerated dynamics, record sales are also noticed for the Glasses and tableware segment, with European exports to the US market growing by 5% compared to the same period in 2019 - the segment's peak year.
There is therefore confirmation of the golden moment for international sales of Household Products (as documented on several occasions in this e-magazine1), with European companies playing a leading role on international markets.
